Communications and Digitization Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has described claims by the Covid-19 Corruption Risk Assessment Report that government mismanaged Covid-19 funds as as “absolutely false”.
The report claimed, for instance, that the Communication Ministry spent over US$1 million to procure and launch the Ghana Covid-19 Tracker app.
But reacting to the allegation, the Minister the figures stated in the report are purely a “figment of someone’s fertile imagination”.
She has therefore called on owners of the report, Community Development Alliance (CDA) to provide evidence for their claim or their report will be treated as “toilet paper.”
According to the Ablekuma West MP, Ascend Digital donated the app as its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), as such, government did not award any contract, neither did it pay for its development.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful further disclosed that the researchers did not contact her office to obtain records on how funds specified for the Communications Ministry were disbursed.
“If I am challenging this one fact, then it tells the entire package of lies that they have put out there. The entire work must be questioned and I urge every institution named in this research to take a copy and look at it to verify whether or not what has been put out there is a figment of their imagination or it is what really happened,” she stated.
