Ghana’s leading telecoms tower company, ATC Ghana was this year inducted into the Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards Hall of Fame for winning Tower Company of the Year for eight consecutive times.

At the plush event, held at the Movempick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, ATC also won Telecom Support Company of the Year for the fifth time and Infrastructure Company of the Year for the third time.

The organizers of GITTA, Instinct Wave therefore saw it fit to induct ATC Ghana into its Hall of Fame for its consistency in partnering the telecoms and ICT industry to provide connectivity and ensure digital inclusion across the country.

ATC Ghana is a subsidiary of American Tower Corporation which is the leading owner and operator of communications sites for the wireless and broadcast industries.

America Tower’s global solutions include 214,000 towers, 2,000 managed rooftops, in-building and outdoor Distributed Antennae Systems networks, and a suite of services that speed network deployment.

In Ghana, American Tower operates as ATC Ghana, which is also leading tower company with a portfolio of more than 4,000 sites.

ATC Ghana is the leading manager of Ghana’s telecom industry co-location arrangement, providing co-location services to MTN, Vodafone, AirtelTigo, Surfline, Busy Internet and other players in the space.

Building Digital Communities

ATC Digital Community inaugurated at Bawku

Beside working with industry players to reach Ghanaians with their services, ATC Ghana also remains a good corporate citizen of Ghana, focusing their sustainability vision on education.

CEO of ATC Ghana, Yahaya Nasamu Yunusa told TechGh24 that “We have built 10 state-of-the-art ICT Learning Centres at Battor, Jamasi, Savelugu, Tarkwa, Bawdua, Makola, Asuom, Berekum, Akontonbra and Bawku to help these undeserved/unserved communities to improve their access to good quality education.”

He said the ICT Learning Centres are called ATC Ghana Digital Communities and are retrofitted 20-foot shipping containers equipped with 10 desktop computers, internet access, 24-hour power supply from ATC’s tower, and CCTV.

According to him, the Digital Communities are designed to provide information and communications technology access and entrepreneurial training to equip the youth with the right skill-set to survive and thrive in an increasingly connected and interconnected world.

Yahaya Nasamu Yunusa said he was proud of ATC Ghana’s, adding that the company is committed to the development of infrastructure to support network deployment across the country and has therefore invested more than US$ 1billion into the sector since 2011, and projects to invest more than US$ 200million in the next five years.
