Vice President Dr. Mahamudu has announced that Government, through the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has begun processes to convert the National Identification Numbers on the Ghana Card into Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) for effect tax revenue mobilization.

The move will allow Ghanaians to use their Ghana Card numbers to register their businesses so they can be tracked easily for tax purposes.

This is expected to commence from January 2021 and eventually increase the number of taxpayers from less than three million to 16 million and shore up government tax revenue.

The Vice President announced this at a forum organized by the National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party to mark International Youth Day in Accra.

Dr. Bawumia also announced that Government had secured US$200million World Bank support to implement the Jobs and Skills Development programme.

The programme, he said, is expected to be implemented over the five years, to improve the entrepreneurial skills and productivity of the Ghanaian youth.

Vice President Bawumia enumerated some initiatives rolled out by the Akufo-Addo’s government to formalize the economy, including National Digital Property Addressing System, National Identification Cards (Ghana Card), Mobile Money Interoperability, and measures underway to integrate the databases of the National Identification Authority and Births and Deaths Registry and other state agencies for easy accessibility of information.

Indeed, earlier today, the Communications Minister announced that government, through the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) rolled its Smart Workplace to enable all public sector workers work remotely on a digital platform.

Smart Workplace connect all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies together so they can operate seamlessly and deliver better services to their clients with ease.

The platform also reduces physical contact among public sector workers and between them and their clients so that the spread of COVID-19 is curbed.
