Ghana’s Garage Mobility among 5 beneficiaries of Y Combinator Summer 22 funding

Ghana Garage Mobility, a leading autotech platform has been named among five startups up for funding in Y Combinator’s 2022 cohort.

The other four are Pivo Technologies and Chowdeck from Nigera, Patika from Kenya, and Paris-based Moneco.

The five were selected out of 146 applications and they each stand to receive $500,000 funnelled into their high-growth businesses and access Y Combinator’s extensive network and global partners.

Garage Mobility is Africa’s premier automotive technology company, connecting regional and global manufacturers and distributors with fleets, retailers and mechanic shops and providing best in class software for inventory management, shop management and eCommerce.

But it would appear Y Combinator is slowing down with funding for African startups. In the last cohort, there were 24 startups, but now it is down to five and industry watchers are wondering if Y Combinator’s investment in Africa will see a decline in the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, Y Combinator’s demo day for its this cohort is still in September so it is possible that there might be more African startups popping up in its directory before demo day.

The special thing about the S22 batch is that the cohort will be the first since 2020 to have some in-person sessions.
