Rita Nhyiraba Tetteh, the woman who led the famous MTN Mobile Money’s “Me nsa aka ooo” TV commercial 13 years ago has been gifted a 2-bedroom house by MTN.

The house is worth over GH¢300,000, and is located at Doboro in the Greater-Accra Region.

Rita Nhyiraba Tetteh was the lead character in the first MTN Mobile Money television and radio commercial, which contributed massively to Mobile Money adoption.

In the commercial, she gave a testimony on how she instantly received the money on her mobile wallet when it was sent by her son in the city, and shouted in twi to announce she has received the money, “me nsa aka oo“.

The other twist in the commercial was when a young boy on a boat asked  “na sika no wo hen”, to wit,  “Ah! where is the money”, and that led the woman to go to a vendor and cash out the money from her wallet to show that mobile money can easily be converted into physical cash.

The compelling message, delivered on the back of the woman’s beautiful acting skills did a lot for the initial adoption of Mobile Money at the time. So, in celebrating its Mobile Money Month, this year, MTN decided to reward Rita Tetteh for her contribution to the growth of Mobile Money.

The 2-bedroom house was built in fulfilment of a promise made to Ms Tetteh two years ago at the MoMo 10th anniversary celebration.

At an event held at the new house in Doboro, the leadership of MTN Mobile Money Limited handed over the keys of the building to her.

The Chief Executive Officer of Mobile Money Limited, Eli Hini said the presentation was part of the company’s effort to honour and celebrate all stakeholders who contributed greatly to the MoMo journey.

“In view of the success chalked over the years, Mobile Money decided to honour all stakeholders who played very critical roles in the MoMo journey during our 10th anniversary celebrations,” Eli Hini said.

Meanwhile, Rita Tetteh, who was beside herself with tears of joy, thanked MTN for the show of love and kindness to her over the years until now that they have climaxed their kindness with a house.

“I thank MTN for everything they have been doing for me since I did that advert – when I need money and go to them they give me – when I need a phone they give – whatever I need MTN gives me and I am very grateful,” she said.

The woman also prayed for God’s blessing for the people who conceived the mobile money idea and implemented it in Ghana, saying that it has been of great help to a lot of Ghanaians, providing jobs and all kinds of support.
