Working from home comes with both benefits and challenges, especially if you have young children. Imagine one of your children gets access to your PC and accidentally deletes important work-related files or a project you have been working on, and clears your recycle bin. Impossible you say, but let us just imagine that happens. This week’s App of the Week seeks to solve the problem of accidentally deleted files or folders on your Windows PC permanently, or your Pendrive, or even a formatted external hard drive.
Recuva is a free file recovery program that makes it extremely easy to locate files that were once thought to be lost forever. The intuitive user interface will appeal to all user levels.
The application’s user interface is very simple and easy to grasp. It is extremely easy to navigate right off the bat; the reason being that Recuva employs a wizard to walk users through the file recovery process.
Firstly, you need to choose the specific file type you are searching from a list, such as; Pictures, Music, Documents, Video, Compressed files, Emails.
The next step is to select the location where the files were originally located before they were deleted.
You then begin the recovery process by clicking the Start button. The program’s Advanced view provides detailed information on each file, such as the file’s size and creation time.
Recovered files have three color codes beside the filenames; green means the file is in good condition and can be recovered intact, yellow means the file may be corrupted and red meaning the file is corrupted or unusable.
Recovering selected files is as easy as ticking the file or files to be recovered and clicking the Recover button. Within seconds, the file is recovered and saved to your location of choice.
Though we don’t think you’ll need it, we were disappointed to find that the program doesn’t include any kind of Help file. It does, however, include a link to the publisher’s website, which contains a forum. All in all, Recuva is an excellent choice for anyone in need of reliable file recovery tool.
