MTN Chenosis, Ayoba, MoMo Accelerator Awards: Node 8 wins ultimate GHS50,000 prize

MTN Ghana has rewarded four start-ups who emerged winners at the second MTN Chenosis Ayoba MoMo Accelerator competition.

The competition was created by MTN Ghana, Chenosis, Ayoba and MTN MoMo for various start-ups across the country to bring forward their digital solutions and leverage the Ayoba Super App to grow their businesses.

Over 100 start-ups entered the initial bootcamp in the runup to the awards. But some 23 of them made the cut for the final pitching that determined the award winners.

At the end of the competition, Volta Region-based start-up, Node 8 won the GHS50,000 ultimate prize. Node 8 is a digital innovation hub that invest in young African innovators and startups building the future.

Meanwhile, OwnaRadio, an online radio app that automated broadcasting of other radio stations in one app, won two awards – The Best MoMo Solution and Best Chenosis Solution Awards. They walked away with GHS40,000 for the two awards, plus a lifetime partnership with MTN Chenosis and Ayoba, a certificate, and souvenirs from MTN Ghana.

Also, Wasteman won Ghc20,000.00 in the category of Express Choice Award plus a lifetime partnerships with MTN et al.

All the winners, and the other 19 finalists will have the opportunity to onboard their solutions on the Ayoba Super App which has over 2.5 million active customers in Ghana and 21 million across Africa. They also have access to the Chenosis platform where they can monetize their solutions and receive payments via MTN MoMo.

Chief Digital Officer of MTN Ghana, Dario Bianchi said MTN is committed to driving digital and financial inclusion in Ghana, adding that the main aim of the competition is to push local businesses to leverage Ayoba as a platform to sell their solutions across Africa.

The MTN Chief Digital Officer stressed that the Ayoba App has provided exciting content for all users irrespective of their locations on the continent.

He said MTN will continue to work with the start-ups because they need their feedback to improve on the platforms to serve businesses better.
